Behold as my Japanese economy car tows my friend’s built 80s Camaro after we forgot to properly tension a belt and it flew off, taking the other belts with it. Go us. Of course, many Ford truck owners took the opportunity to heckle the stranded Chevy being towed by a Civic, but whatever. We got home safe after running several stop signs because the Camaro had no brakes when turned off and the guy steering it didn’t think to pull the parking brake to stop (*sigh*). Meh. neighborhood roads gonna neighborhood.

Flat towing? Oh geez. I am not sure I trust you on the roads anymore...

Flat towing is.....terrifying. Had to do it once with my Baja Bug behind my friend’s 06 Dodge Ram. It was a scary experience. NEVER AGAIN.

Desperate situation. Late at night. Neighborhood roads.

I'm ok with it.

Yes. Because, you know, we had a wealth of other options.

Quadrupled up nylon rope. The same crap used for water skiing and such. Totally not ideal but

1. I wanted the rope to break before my car does

2. At speeds <10mph who really gives a shit

I gotta say, I’m pretty torn.

On the one hand I do get it, on the other its still unsafe and late at night doesn’t make it safe.

Don’t get me wrong, I get it... And I am not even sure I would have done differently in the same situation but flat towing still scares the crap out of me.

Doesn't make it safe but less danger to others because less people on the road. Better than trying it during peak traffic

I have done worse, don’t let the haters get to you. I used to keep a pretty sweet braided tow rope with hooks on it in my trunk for these situations. My status as the driver of the most reliable and powerful car in the household, along with being one of the kids, meant I was the tow car.

However, you don't flat tow a car that doesn't have brakes and a driver you know/trust absolutely. Way too risky. My dad and I would drive one or the other, never anyone else.

It had brakes when it was running... we didn’t discover the lack of brakes until we were already well down the road with it. Oops.
